Penny or C-Web?

Afther 12 years and Penny Hardaway's unofficial retirement lets take a look at the draft day swap of Chris Webber (no 1 pick) and Penny (3rd pick).

Penny was 4 times allstar, but in the last 7 years of his career was nothing but an average player. Webber was also 4 times Allstar and still scores 20p and gets 10r (43% FG) but in the first years he and his teams were far from any playoff contention.

Which was the best pick at the time, then?

I say PENNY!!! Ypu can't evaluate the decision 10 years after, at the point stuff stands in time.

Penny was ALL-NBA 1st TEAM in his second season!! While...Webber as AWOL from the Warriores for some bulls**t reason with Nellie after being rookie of the year. So he was reunited with Michigan pal JHoward at Washignto DC where all he did for a few years was to watch the playoffs on TV while the Magic made it to the Finals and Conference Finals. Who says Shaq wouldn't leave the Magic (that was the big issue after all) if webber was there? Skiles was already OLD those days, so Penny was the choice for the future.

BTW, the 1st time Webber even made it to the all-star game, Penny already had his legs messed up.

Sure Webber has been more durable even with his injuries, while Penny couldn't even dunk or run @ NY. Now he's with the Magic and a buy-out is next. Penny surely won't play again.

But..Penny was class stuff, Pippen Like. REALLY Made teammates better, while the body lasted.

It is worth mentioning also that the Magic received 3 future first rounds picks with the trade..
