Chavacano: dialecto Espanhol das Filipinas
Como sabem as Filipinas assim de chamam por causa da dinastia dos Filipes que governou Portugal nos séculos XVI e XVII. Ainda há algum espanhol e dialectos, embora em menor escala que o inglês e filipino, falados na "Sapataria da Imelda". Eis umas impressões obtidas por uns amigos filipinos:
We do have a dialect that's more like "bastardized" Spanish called Chavacano.
Spanish: Yo vivo en Manila (I live in Manila).
Chavacano: Ta queda yo na Manila.
People from Zamboanga (Mindanao) and a part in Cavite (or is it Batangas?) speak Chavacano. Some Tagalog words actually have their roots from Spanish words, like mesa (spanish for table), sibuyas (cebollas, onion), edukasyon (educacion), kabayo (caballo, horse), silya (silla, chair). (Muppi, ask your wife to say SUSMARYOSEP! It's short for Jesus, Maria, Joseph, LOL.)

While we were a Spanish colony, they generally kept the language from widespread use by the masses. Only the upper classes of the population (middlemen or laity) were able to read and write Spanish (which also made it a status symbol).
Nowadays, Spanish is a big contributor to 'swardspeak' the language of the homosexual subculture.
